Petro Georgiou please resign
August 12th, 200612.8.06
Following their vote against the Government, Petro Georgiou and Russell Broadbent should resign as members of the Liberal Party and contest next elections as independents. Do they really think they would be elected by not having the party backing? But if they have such strong beliefs that compels them even to vote against the Government they should have no hesitation in doing so.
To argue that processing of asylum-seekers ( or economic refugees ) would be tested more swiftly on Australian mainland is a dream. It would open a pandora box for legal profession with one appeal after another until a sympathetic judge would rule in their favour. To hell with the cost to ratepayers. To hell with security consideration, to hell with any possible medical deceases these illegal arrivals may carry. The experience of U.K. has shown us that benevolent open door policy simply does not work. The alternative, to capitulate to do-gooders lobby and open the door to anyone who manages to reach our shores is simply naïve and misguided.
I live in that fool Broadbents electorate and I will activley campaign against the idiot come next election. He got in VIA strong support from John Howard, then the bastard turns around and does this nonsense.
I am so angry with him. I will support ANY candidate (except the ALP one) over him when the time comes.

You are right he should resign and finish his term as an Independent, he was elected by Liberal Party voters with financial support from the branches and the Party, this is not his first time as a Member, he was elected twice before and lost his seat at the following elections, this is the third time the Liberal Party have supported him and this is what we get in return, he was elected as a Liberal to represent our party not his own agenda, he is low life. He must hope that he has enough votes from his friends “The Rural Australians For Refugees” to vote for him because I am sure that he will not get much support from the average voter who knows a fair thing and stands up for what is right.

I was talking about Russell Broadbent, I just followed on from Patrick’s comment, Georgio has been in since he was first elected. Just thought that I would clarify that.

I have no problem with politicians voting against the party. I wish more had the guts including in the ALP.
